When a pent is the better bet

A pent roof slopes one way only, usually about 6ft at the front down to 5ft 6in at the back. That matters in three situations. The shed is going against the house and you want water running away from the wall. It is going down a side return where an apex ridge would catch the gutter. Or it is sat against a boundary fence and you would rather it did not loom over next door.

Which way should it slope?

Nearly always with the high edge at the front, so you walk in under full height and the rain runs off the back. Flip it round only if the shed is tight against a wall at the front, then put the high edge to the wall so the water lands in the open instead of down the brickwork. Either way is free here, just tell us which.

Headroom, and being straight about it

A standard pent gives you roughly 6ft at the high edge. If you are over six foot, or you plan on doing anything in there other than dumping the mower, take the tall 6ft 7in option. It costs nothing on the tongue and groove range and it is the thing people most often wish they had ticked. The workshop pent goes to 7ft at the high edge.

Doors and windows

Seven door positions, five window layouts, four window styles, all in. On a pent the handy one that nobody else seems to offer is the door on the long side rather than the gable end. In a narrow garden that turns an awkward squeeze into a straight walk in.
