What makes it a workshop and not just a big shed
Four things, and they all show up once you are using it regularly. The framing goes from 40x30mm up to 60x40mm, so the walls take shelving, racking and a bench bolted to them without flexing about. The floor goes to 18mm board on heavy bearers, which is what stops a pillar drill or a table saw bouncing around. The eaves go to 7ft so you can stand and work at the walls, not just down the middle. And the roof is EPDM rubber instead of felt, with a vapour barrier behind the cladding.
Double doors, and why you want them
They come as standard on the workshop build. Anything you will want in and out, a mower, a motorbike, sheet material, a bench, is not going through a 2ft 6in opening. Double doors give you about 4ft 6in clear, which makes the difference.
Power and lighting
Sort this before you order. A workshop running machine tools wants its own armoured supply and a consumer unit, not an extension lead out the kitchen window. We can run the wiring ready for connection, but the final hook up is notifiable work so it needs a proper sparky.
Damp and rust
Rust is what kills workshop sheds, and it comes from condensation rather than rain. The vapour barrier deals with most of it. Leave an air gap behind benches on outside walls and do not try to seal the place up completely, a bit of air movement is what keeps your steel dry.
Sizes
8x6 up to 20x10 in apex or pent. An 8x6 takes a bench and some storage. A 10x8 is where you can get all the way round a machine. 12x8 and up is a proper two zone workshop.
